Calcium silicate — backup insulation up to 1000 °C
Calcium silicate sits behind the IFB or against the casing — the cool-face insulator that keeps shell metal at safe temperatures and protects personnel-contact surfaces. Asbestos-free, dimensionally stable, water-repellent (rainwater contamination during transport doesn't damage the boards). Stocked in standard board, block and pipe-section sizes.

Overview
Calcium Silicate — what they are, when to specify
Calcium silicate insulation is a hydrothermally synthesised composite of calcium silicate hydrates and reinforcing fibre. It is shaped to boards, blocks and pre-formed pipe sections, fired and dried. The resulting product has low thermal conductivity (0.06-0.12 W/mK), low density (220-300 kg/m³) and excellent dimensional stability up to 650-1000 °C depending on grade.
Product Types
Forms we stock
Boards (Standard)
1000 × 500 mm boards in 25/32/38/50/65/75/100 mm thicknesses. Cut on site with hand tools.
Blocks
Solid blocks for high-load casing applications and seat-supports.
Pipe Sections (Half Shells)
Pre-formed half-shells for pipe diameters 25-600 mm, paired and strapped on installation.
Slabs (Custom)
Cut to drawing for special geometry — ducting transitions, manhole covers.
Grades
Stocked grades — pick by service condition
Indicative properties only. Final specification is set per application after we review your operating envelope.
| Grade | Composition | Service Limit | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type I (650 °C) | — | ≤650 °C | Steam piping, hot water, boiler casings |
| Type II (1000 °C) | — | ≤1000 °C | Behind IFB, kiln casing, hot-gas ducts |
| Marine Grade (water repellent) | — | ≤650 °C | Outdoor ducting, rainwater-exposed installations |
Standard board sizes are 1000 × 500 mm. Pipe sections sized per pipe NB and insulation thickness. Cut, mitred and chamfered to drawing on indent.

Why Chaneyco
Three reasons buyers source calcium silicate from us
Stocked at Chakan, dispatched fast
Calcium Silicate are held at our Chakan plant in Pune. Standard grades dispatch same-day to plants in the Pune industrial belt and within days pan-India by road or rail.
Spec advice before quote
Choosing the right grade for the operating envelope makes a much bigger lifecycle-cost difference than haggling on the cheapest grade. Our technical team will recommend by zone before quoting.
ISO 9001:2015 audit-ready
Every batch ships with composition and dimensional QC records, supported by our ISO 9001:2015 certification (Cert. 11553, AQSR / USAC accredited, valid through 17 Sept 2027).
Frequently Asked
Calcium Silicate questions, answered
Calcium silicate vs ceramic fibre board — when?
Calcium silicate is dense (220-300 kg/m³) and load-bearing — use it where the insulation has to support equipment weight, cladding pressure, or where mechanical abuse is likely (walkways, casing). Ceramic fibre board is much lighter and lower-conductivity but cannot bear load. Use calcium silicate for casing-side, fibre board for backup behind hot face.
Is calcium silicate asbestos-free?
Yes. All grades supplied are reinforced with cellulose, glass or other man-made fibres. Asbestos has not been used in industrial calcium silicate insulation in India for over a decade — every batch ships with composition certificates.
Can you cut to special shapes?
Yes. Boards are easily cut on site with carbide tooling, but for high-volume runs we cut, mitre and chamfer in our Chakan workshop and dispatch ready-to-install kits with item numbers per drawing.
