SiC bricks for high-conductivity, high-abrasion service

Silicon carbide bricks combine extreme abrasion resistance with high thermal conductivity and excellent thermal-shock tolerance. Specified anywhere a refractory has to dissipate heat (aluminium pot cathodes, zinc retorts) or survive abrasive flue paths (incinerator hot zones, biomass and WtE boilers). Stocked in nitride-bonded and clay-bonded grades.

Silicon Carbide Bricks — what they are, when to specify

Silicon carbide refractory bricks are produced by bonding SiC grains with one of several matrix systems — nitride (Si3N4), oxynitride, clay or self-bonded SiC. Each bond family trades off oxidation resistance, mechanical strength and cost. Nitride-bonded SiC is the gold standard for aluminium cell sidewalls and incinerator hot zones; clay-bonded SiC suits waste-to-energy boiler tube shielding.

Spec advice before quote

Choosing the right grade for the operating envelope makes a much bigger lifecycle-cost difference than haggling on the cheapest grade. Our technical team will recommend by zone before quoting.

ISO 9001:2015 audit-ready

Every batch ships with composition and dimensional QC records, supported by our ISO 9001:2015 certification (Cert. 11553, AQSR / USAC accredited, valid through 17 Sept 2027).

Silicon Carbide Bricks questions, answered

Why is nitride-bonded SiC preferred for aluminium cells?

The Si3N4 bond resists attack by molten aluminium and bath fluorides far better than oxide bonds, and the SiC grain network conducts heat away from the sidewall — critical for the freeze-line that protects the cathode. Cell life on nitride-bonded sidewalls runs significantly longer than on oxide-bonded alternatives.

Is SiC suitable for sulphur-bearing flue gas?

SiC oxidises in wet, sulphur-bearing flue paths above ~1100 °C. For WtE and biomass boilers we recommend clay-bonded SiC tiles in cooler zones and oxide-bonded SiC composites in hotter zones — and we run an oxidation-resistance check before quoting.

Can you supply SiC kiln furniture?

Yes. Recrystallised SiC batts, posts, beams and rollers for ceramic and technical-ceramic kilns. Lead time depends on shape; talk to us with a drawing.
