Slide-gate, ladle-shroud and tundish-furniture systems
Continuous casting lives or dies on flow-control refractories — the slide-gate plate, the ladle shroud, the SEN, the tundish nozzles. A failure means a stopped strand and weeks of revenue lost. We stock the full continuous-casting flow-control set, with carbon-bonded alumina plates, alumina-graphite shrouds and zirconia-rich SENs sized for major Indian caster builds.

Overview
Flow Control Refractories — what they are, when to specify
Flow control refractories are the precision-engineered shapes that govern molten-steel flow from ladle to caster mould. They include slide-gate plates and well blocks (ladle), ladle shrouds and SENs (transfer), and tundish nozzles, dams, weirs and furniture (tundish). Each shape sees a unique combination of thermal shock, slag chemistry and erosion, and the grade is set per shape, not per ladle.
Grades
Stocked grades — pick by service condition
Indicative properties only. Final specification is set per application after we review your operating envelope.
| Grade | Composition | Service Limit | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alumina-Carbon Slide Gate Plate | Al2O3 80%, C 5% | Multi-heat | Standard ladle slide-gate plates |
| Alumina-Zirconia-Carbon Plate | Al2O3 70%, ZrO2 15% | Premium long-life | Long-sequence ladle plates, premium grades |
| Alumina-Graphite Ladle Shroud | Al2O3 60%, C 25% | Per-heat | Ladle-to-tundish shrouds |
| Alumina-Graphite SEN | Al2O3 55%, C 25% | Per-heat | Submerged entry nozzle, tundish-to-mould |
| Zirconia-Graphite Slag-Line Sleeve | ZrO2 80%, C 15% | Slag-line | SEN slag-line band — clean steels |
| Tundish Nozzle (Al2O3-MgO) | Al2O3 65%, MgO 10% | Per-cast | Open and submerged tundish nozzles |
| Tundish Furniture (Castable) | Al2O3 75% | Multi-cast | Tundish dams, weirs, impact pads |

Why Chaneyco
Three reasons buyers source flow control refractories from us
Stocked at Chakan, dispatched fast
Flow Control Refractories are held at our Chakan plant in Pune. Standard grades dispatch same-day to plants in the Pune industrial belt and within days pan-India by road or rail.
Spec advice before quote
Choosing the right grade for the operating envelope makes a much bigger lifecycle-cost difference than haggling on the cheapest grade. Our technical team will recommend by zone before quoting.
ISO 9001:2015 audit-ready
Every batch ships with composition and dimensional QC records, supported by our ISO 9001:2015 certification (Cert. 11553, AQSR / USAC accredited, valid through 17 Sept 2027).
Frequently Asked
Flow Control Refractories questions, answered
Are your plates compatible with our existing slide-gate mechanism?
Yes — supply us your OEM (Vesuvius, RHI, Stollberg, Sarralle, etc.) plate drawing or an existing worn plate and we will match the dimensions, locating bores and bevel angles exactly. Slide-gate mechanisms are unforgiving of dimensional drift; we hold tight tolerance bands on the bores and seat.
Do you offer anti-clogging coatings on SENs?
Yes. Lime-based and CaO-MgO coatings are available on SENs for aluminium-killed clean steel grades where alumina build-up is a known issue. Coating thickness and recipe are matched to the steel grade and casting speed.
Can you handle premium long-sequence plates?
Yes. Alumina-zirconia-carbon plates are stocked for long-sequence casting (typically 8+ heats) and clean-steel grades. We will recommend by sequence target and grade-mix profile.
