Gunning mass — for online and shutdown repair

Gunning materials are sprayed onto worn refractory surfaces from a gun nozzle, with water added at the nozzle (wet gunning) or in the mixer (dry gunning). They consolidate against the hot face and extend lining campaigns dramatically — a converter slag-line that gets one quick gunning shot per heat will outlast an un-gunned lining several times over.

Gunning Materials — what they are, when to specify

Gunning material is a refractory mix designed for pneumatic application — fine particle size for nozzle handling, controlled set-time so it adheres to vertical and overhead surfaces, and bond chemistry matched to the hot-face being patched. The technique extends lining life by replacing only the worn zone instead of relining the whole vessel.

Three reasons buyers source gunning materials from us

Stocked at Chakan, dispatched fast

Gunning Materials are held at our Chakan plant in Pune. Standard grades dispatch same-day to plants in the Pune industrial belt and within days pan-India by road or rail.

Spec advice before quote

Choosing the right grade for the operating envelope makes a much bigger lifecycle-cost difference than haggling on the cheapest grade. Our technical team will recommend by zone before quoting.

ISO 9001:2015 audit-ready

Every batch ships with composition and dimensional QC records, supported by our ISO 9001:2015 certification (Cert. 11553, AQSR / USAC accredited, valid through 17 Sept 2027).

Gunning Materials questions, answered

Wet vs dry gunning — which method?

Wet gunning gives smoother, denser deposits with less rebound — best for cold or shutdown repair. Dry gunning lets you spray onto hot surfaces (online repair) where wet material would steam-explode. Most steel plants use dry gunning between heats and wet gunning during planned maintenance windows.

Can you supply gunning equipment with operator?

Yes — through our installation services. We can supply the gun, hoses, compressor and a trained nozzle operator from our Chakan crew. Online repair work requires the right operator more than the right material.

How much can gunning extend a lining?

Highly dependent on the application. A typical BOF converter on a planned gunning schedule sees 2-3x the un-gunned campaign life. Ladle slag-lines see 1.5-2x. The economics are usually overwhelming — gunning material cost vs. relining cost runs roughly 1:20.
